With the release of Dave Clarks new team rankings system, we finally have an accurate and reliable way to calculate the top 15 teams in the region.
To establish team rankings the list takes the top 5 skiers in each event just like a regular NCWSA tournament. It scores them as 10 points per skier and then takes each team’s top 4 skiers for total team points in that event. It then takes the team points across slalom, trick, and jump for both men and women and comes up with a pseudo-tournament that ranks all the teams just as if all 100 NCWSA teams competed in the same tournament.
So basically what that all means is some pretty sweet rankings action for all of us here in the Midwest! Heading into week 2 and the Iowa State Cyclone Skifest and the Michigan State Ripfest (there has been a considerable amount of “fest’s” this year), here are your Top 15 MCWSA teams:
TEAM Conference Team Score
1 Purdue University GL 24595
2 University of Michigan GL 23320
3 Iowa State University GP 23165
4 University of Wisconsin Madison GP 22520
5 Missouri State University GP 20910
6 University of Cincinnati GL 20855
7 University of Wisconsin Stout GP 18735
8 Southern Illinois University GP 18250
9 Michigan State University GL 16815
10 University of Illinois GP 15995
11 University of Wisconsin La Crosse GP 15070
12 Marquette University GP 13890
13 Western Michigan University GL 13330
14 Kansas State University GP 11800
15 Miami of Ohio GL 11550
So far the number of teams making the top 15 is divided up pretty close to the conference split from last year’s Regional tournament, with 6 teams from the Great Lakes and 9 Teams from the Great Plaines. Also, we can see that even though there may be a big split between the top and bottom of the list in terms of team scores, the differences between places is surprisingly small. So there’s your Week 2 Top 15, stay tuned after the tournaments this weekend for the Week 3 Top 15 next week!
